Rock River, Chateau set for decisive encounter
published: Saturday | May 31, 2008

Dwight Nelson, Gleaner Writer

Rock River and Chateau will square off tomorrow in the deciding leg of the FX Traders Clarendon Division One League at Monymusk, starting at 3 p.m.

A very competitive contest is anticipated as both teams demonstrated their determination of being champions in an exciting 2-2 draw in the first match of the two-way finals last Sunday at Monymusk.

In that final, the Rock River team had their supporters celebrating wildly at the outset as their first real attack earned them a penalty in the second minute, after Chateau defender Travis Roberts handled a ball in his goal area. Leon Simmonds converted from the penalty spot.

Chateau drew level in the 24th minute when Sean Daley outwitted an offside trap and fired a cracker past the Rock River custodian.

Rock River had the advantage to regain the lead in the 80th minute through a second penalty but this time Simmonds booted the ball over the crossbar.

Chateau, however, took the lead in the 83rd minute and had their supporters in wild celebration after Romain Medley fired a powerhouse to beat the Rock River custodian.

Chateau's celebration was shortlived as Rock River pulled level in the 90th minute through a solo effort from Kemiel Walters.
