NOTE-WORTHY: Praising Firemen
published: Wednesday | June 4, 2008

Praising Firemen

As a former member of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, I am still checking the news to see whether there is anything positive going on for my ex-co-workers, especially in Clarendon but to no avail.

Hopefully, when I log on next time I will see something positive to show my friends in Canada. Bravo to all those hard-working guys at Frankfield Fire Station.

Dirty dancehall

I confidently believe that certain dancehall music should be outlawed. It's really disgraceful to hear some of the words in that music which young children are exposed to.

Parents should be charged for allowing their children to go to those kind of dances. My parents never allowed us to attend any adult dance, and again there were no dirty lyrics of the type vulgar DJs use today.

It's time for the government to step in and stop the slush. Hold all children found at these dancehall events until their parents come and get them, and right there lay a charge on them, The courts must also take a leading role in disciplining these parents.

Excellent perspective

Greetings, Garth Rattray. Just a quick note of appreciation for your insightful perspective on the PM's latest 'stragedy'.

You have enunciated perfectly a current of Jamaican reasoning which is refreshingly familiar. Bravo! Keep up the great writing,

Parental duty

There's nothing wrong with dancehall music. It's the parents duty to monitor what their kids are exposed to. So, quit blaming the artistes for their work!

Memories of Ardenne

Kudos to the Principal of Ardenne High School, Esther Tyson, for the information on the school system in Cuba. As an 'old girl', it brought back wonderful memories of my time at Ardenne. Our class sizes then were a little more than 15 students, but we were blessed with wonderful teachers and we were eager to learn.

Reading the stats in the article appalled me a bit. In the 'old days', it seemed we were more diligent about keeping up our grades and achieving our goals of higher education. It does seem that smaller class sizes would be a very good idea and would hopefully improve those stats. Mrs Tyson, I wish you continued success in all your undertakings.
