The Editor, Sir:I am 100 per cent in agreement with the column, 'Jamaica's moment of truth' in the Sunday Gleaner. The Government must stop the talking and act now to stop the bloodletting that is presently crippling the society.
Because of the crime and violence in Jamaica, I am here in the United States living as a 'no-class' citizen.
I had to take my family, leave behind my beautiful home, my teaching job and friends and escape.
Criminal offences
My daughter was raped, and my son who went to Wolmers' High was held up and his bus fare stolen. Thank God, I am one of the lucky ones who didn't have to plan a funeral. My brothers and sisters who are there are now suffering beyond comprehension, because of the malady of criminality that has become part of their daily lives.
Golding and his colleagues must call a state of emergency now, to stop the bleeding. He must put a halt to his travels and call a gun amnesty in collaboration with the private sector to ease the suffering and pain that my fellow brothers and sisters are enduring.
I am, etc.,
