The Editor, Sir:
Congratulations to Bolt on his world record, but he must know now that the forces that be will be issuing him with a little bottle every morning. How dare he beat the Americans. He must be using something. So he will have to be very careful who he accepts drinks from while he celebrates. International sport can be a dirty business.
His world record takes me back to his coach's comments that Usain Bolt's performance in the 100 metres could be compared to the discovery of Viagra. An accident. The drug reference was unfortunate but it did make me wonder if taking Viagra by an athlete would be illegal. For one so young he may not need assistance in his performance on that account, but I can imagine the headlines. 'Usain Bolt, a hard competitor to beat.' 'Bolt sustains his performance.' 'Can Bolt keep it up?' 'Bolt shouldn't have a problem going a longer distance.'
One thing for sure though, we know he isn't even on Viagra because Bolt's performance times are getting shorter and shorter.
I am, etc.,
