Palmer ... will be missing from Meadhaven's line-up - File
MEADHAVEN UNITED will look to assure themselves a spot in local top-flight football next season when they tackle winless Wadadah in a rescheduled National Premier League (NPL) play-off fixture at the Urban Development Corporation field in Montego Bay today.
KSAFA team Meadhaven already have one foot through the door and, on 10 points, simply need a draw to progress to the island's top league.
Playing for pride
As for Wadadah, who had bold ambitions of returning to the top flight after being booted out last season, the game will be a case of playing for pride.
The western team has gone four games without a win while Meadhaven remain unbeaten in this year's competition.
Without player
While they may fancy themselves to beat a possibly disheartened Wadadah today, Meadhaven will have to do so without centre-half Robert Palmer.
The defender was given a red card for violent conduct in the team's weekend fixture against second-placed Rivoli United in a 1-1 draw at the Constant Spring Complex.
In the first encounter, youthful Meadhaven stunned more experienced Wadadah 2-1 at the Constant Spring Complex - setting the tone for their disastrous qualification campaign.
When the teams met in the original return leg at the Urban Development Corporation two weeks ago, the fixture was called off after 65 minutes due to heavy showers, a game which the western team is convinced it could have won.
Rescheduled fixture
Originally scheduled to complete their play-off fixture today, York United, who are in third place on seven points - one behind Rivoli, will host Meadhaven on Sunday at the York Oval. Rivoli have also had their game against Wadadah pushed back to Sunday.
