With the first leg of the Caribbean Circuit Racing Championship now history, motor racing fans are bracing themselves for another international race meet, which is scheduled for early next month.

This upcoming event will be a two-day race meet and promises to be much bigger and more exciting than the recent circuit racing championship meet. It has been dubbed the 'Caribbean Karting Carnival', which begins on July 6-7.

At least 100 go-karts will be in action. Reports are that 40 of these are coming from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana and the United States.

"The karts from overseas will be shipped next week, for them to arrive here on time for the meet," president of the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) Neil Williams, disclosed on Friday.

Relatives of 'big names'

While the overseas-based Jamaicans will be returning home for the meet, Williams said that among the foreigners scheduled to participate, are the relatives of some 'big names' in motorsport.

On a point of interest, some of the foreigners who are coming out of Miami, will be here to challenge the popular Colin Daley, based on his impressive display at the Homestead Speedway in Miami, two weeks ago.

Reports are that Daley produced a lap time of 50.9 seconds to win pole position at the meet. He went on to win one of the events, but later developed mechanical problems in two other races, which denied him the opportunity of taking the chequered flag.

Based on reports, some of the Rotax Minimax competitors such as Jordon Perry, hope to make the trip to Jamaica for a re-clash with Daley, who is racing under the keen supervision of motor racing legend, Peter 'Jacko' Moodie.

Improved performance

In the meantime, Daley's long time rival, Thomas Issa, has been preparing for the meet, spending some quality time at the track practising. An improved performance is expected from Senna and Samantha Summerbell, who's dad, David, will be getting the assistance of some top class mechanics from Miami.

The Jamaicans will be using the meet as part of their preparation for the World Go-kart Championship which is scheduled to take place later this year.
