The Royal Thai Embassy Ottawa, The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Jamaica, The Thai Trade Centre Miami and the Jamaica Pegasus hotel have collaborated to stage a week-long Thai Festival in Kingston from June 15-21.
The festival will feature Thai cuisine, a display of exquisite Thai arts and crafts, and many elegant traditional Thai performances. There will be daily Thai luncheon buffets and two cooking workshops at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Tuesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 19, from 3:00-5:30 p.m., introducing the use of indigenous Jamaican edible plants and flowers.
There will be entertainment by Thai dancers and traditional umbrella painting. The art of intricate fruit, vegetable and ice carving will also be displayed during the week, and there will be one workshop in this art on Thursday, June 19, from 3:00-5:30 p.m.
Other activities include: tea at the Pegasus, a fashion show and luxurious Thai massage at Nirvana Spa with a certified traditional Thai masseuse. There will also be a workshop in this special art on Tuesday, June 17, from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Mini trade show
There will also be a mini trade show at the same hotel, showcasing Thai products, an exhibition of paintings.
Also flying in exclusively for Thai Week is well-known Thai floral artist/instructor, Phubast (Poo) Chesdmenthee, who will conduct workshops on Wednesday June 18, and Friday, June 20, from 3:00-5:30 p.m.
On June 18 'Good Afternoon Thailand' will be held in collaboration with the Consular Corps of Jamaica for underprivileged children.
The festival will culminate with a grand gala Thai dinner and cultural event under the distinguished patronage of Their Excellencies the Governor General of Jamaica Sir Kenneth Hall and Lady Hall on June 21. All proceeds will be donated to the Mustard Seed Children with HIV(AIDS).
