HOTTEST TOPICS ON THE COCKTAIL CIRCUIT

Talk is ever so cheap

1 Ask those out west who have been whispering about the recent sudden 'retirements'. The insiders say the Young Turk decided to clean house after months of observing certain activities in the business. There are allegations of regular lavish entertainment of buddies and their entourage. We gather that the hints to provide more accountability were consistently ignored. But why wash dirty linen in public, best to sugar-coat it so it seems like everything is hunky-dory.

Cassava Man safe!

2 Jamaicans are so in tune with what is happening politically and are able to see the lighter side of every adversity. Take the current dual citizenship debate. Recently, when the Cassava Man landed in the US, all his fellow Jamaicans were watching keenly to see which line he would join. When he joined the line for visitors, a spontaneous sigh of approval rang out. "Dat one safe, him is a Jamaican," said one passenger as the rest erupted in laughter. Seriously though, isn't it a bit hypocritical to be challenging dual citizenship when for 18 years some alleged violators sat smugly in the Parliament? Some are suggesting that the parties call a halt to the current proceedings, rerun the elections and ensure that on being nominated every potential candidate be asked about his/her status.

Metal madness

3 We hear that corporate signs are the latest to suffer from the metal mania which has been gripping the country in recent times. Last week, an expensive outdoor sign erected by a major corporation disappeared in a flash. One woman who recently suffered at the hands of metal thieves fears that they will come for her grilled garage next. So, to whom are the thieves selling scrap metal?

Loose cannon

4 Many anticipate an explosion in the transport sector because there is a loose cannon somewhere. Tall tales of irrational behaviour and spitefulness are going the rounds. The curious thing is how this one got in so thick after the regime change for he was known to be the sounding board of a prominent member of the now Opposition. Those who believe in conspiracy theories suggest that operatives have been planted in key areas to ensure mayhem.

Fish-head boards

5 Such an elegant term. However, we were recently given the scoop on which are considered the 'fish-head' boards and how people get to be placed on them. Translated, it means the public-sector boards which offer spin-off benefits to its members. We are keeping tabs on some of them.
