The Editor, Sir:I refer to a letter published in The Gleaner on Friday, June 6, entitled 'Postal Theft'. It is unfortunate that any postal service customer is unhappy: we aim to please every customer.
Attention must be drawn, however, to a rather curious outcome of the investigation which ensued regarding this situation. Any allegation of impropriety by our team is thoroughly investigated.
Thus, when our customer collected her mail and considered that there was a discrepancy, her immediate report to the postmaster at that location initiated an analysis. Our deputy postmaster general operations was subsequently contacted to reassure our customer that there had, in fact, not been anything awry.
Dialogue
The dialogue which ensued was expected to have completely clarified the source of the anomaly, as it was noted that the letter sent through the postal system had been unopened, and there was no damage of any kind: that is, the letter was intact from origin to addressee prior to the customer having opened it. The mail item which had been entrusted to us was speedily processed without interference.
Alternative conclusion
It was also established that the contents of the mail item in question, which was another envelope containing a letter and cash, was found to be unsealed. Our deputy postmaster general, operations, took care to guide our customer to form an alternative conclusion as to the likely source of the alleged irregularity, which should be quite obvious to each Gleaner reader.
I am, etc,
