With the St James Hart & Sons Senior netball league now on in earnest, defending champions Crystal and Angels 'A' are the two zone leaders in the 11-team competition, which features six teams in one zone and five in the other.
Crystal, with a 100 per cent win record from three games, lead Zone A with maximum nine points while Angels 'A', despite playing only one game, lead the Zone B standings with three wins as it has been a constant struggle for all the other teams in the zone.
Compiling their impressive record, the Crystal team, which started its campaign with an emphatic 64-18 mauling of Angels 'B' and followed up by clobbering Cable & Wireless 52-20, was again in sparkling form last weekend, crushing Blazers 'A' 42-33.
Goal-shooter Ladonna Lamonth, with 122 goals out of the team's tally of 158, has been phenomenal for Crystal.
Veteran
Amayla Stewart, with 75 goals from two games, and the veteran Rita Spence, with 57 from three games, also contributed heavily.
In the one game that has lifted them to the top of the Zone B standings, Angels 'A' carved out an exciting 44-33 win over the highly rated, but sometimes inconsistent Pacer Juveniles who won the first quarter 10-9.
Angels stormed back to win the second 8-6, the third ended 12-12 and Angels won the final quarter, taking it 13-5 to snatch victory.
The current standings read: Zone A - Crystal 9, Blazers 'A' 3, Starlight Eagles 3, Pacers 'A' 0, Cable & Wireless 0 and Angels 'B' 0. Zone B - Angels 'A' 3, Starlight 'A' 1, Sting 1, Kings 0 and Pacers Juvenile 0.
The competition continues tomorrow afternoon with three games at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts. The games are: Starlight 'A' versus Pacers 'A' at 3 p.m., Kings against Sting at 4:30 p.m. and Cable & Wireless against Angels 'B' at 6 p.m.
