The Editor, Sir:GSAT is no different from the dreaded Common Entrance Examination in terms of placements. Students with the highest grades are still being placed into schools such as Campion College or Wolmer's, and those with average grades are placed in schools such Papine or Claude McKay High schools.
Let me disagree with the minister of education who has defending the GSAT placement method. I am sure that the Ministry of Education once said that a child will not be placed at a school more than three miles away from his or her home. I am sure that the Ministry of Education is not following this policy because there are students who are living in Portmore who are going to school in Papine.
Nearest school
If the Ministry of Education is trying to create equality then it should do the right thing and follow the policy of sending students to the school nearest to students' homes. I am sure teachers are trained to teach students of every ability level.
The ministry needs to ensure that schools are fully equipped to cater for the needs of every student.
Let us practise quality and do not create an education system where one set of students are seen or regarded higher than the others.
I am, etc.,
