Diaspora 'drop legs'
published: Friday | June 20, 2008

This couple sways this way and that way on floor.

Delegates at the recent diaspora conference had a grand time at Tuesday's closing dinner at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

Apart from a few reserved tables, guests could sit anywhere, and that provided the perfect opportunity for delegates from different countries and regions to interact outside of airing grouses and concerns.

The recorded music had a Jamaican feel to it and guests could be heard singing along to instrumentals of Fan Mi Solja Man and other songs of Jamaican folklore.

Guest speaker, the dynamic Harry Belafonte, told the gathering it was time for We Are The World 2. He said the first one was to fight hunger, but this one should be to save the world's children from war and violence. He encouraged the gathering to stop waiting on their governments to fix things. "We've got to help our leaders handle it," he said. He admonished parents to also be responsible for what their children learn and know.

Timeless 'yard' songs

The Fab 5 band would later get the guests out of their seats as they performed timeless 'yard' songs like Long Time and What Can You Do .

Guests included Ambassador Anthony Johnson, Delano Franklyn, Emile and Joy Spence, Theresa and Andrew Roberts, Hugh Morris, Sydney Roberts, June Daley, Joseph Anderson, Dr Harold Mignott, Paulette Simpson, Michael Collins, Andrew O'kola, Kholfani Fullerton and Peter Kelly.

Just cool and easy as Fab 5 thrills everyone.

It's time to groove to the music, and this couple is doing just that.
