The Editor, Sir:Danville Walker never fails to live up to my high expectations of him. His thoughts on the murder of Douglas Chambers echo the sentiments of all well-thinking Jamaicans, who aren't caught up with who's a 'dual citizen' and all that 'political football' but the moral decadence our society has plunged into.
Some of us are excellent speakers on the topic of crime and violence, and how we miss good 'ol' Jamaica', but how many of us walked the walk and talked the talk like Mr Chambers did? How many of us stand up to indiscipline at home, in the supermarket, at school or in your workplace and are willing to pay the ultimate price in this perilous climate, your life?
Explaining a senseless act
If we are to be honest with ourselves, that's less than 40 per cent of our current population. How else do we explain such a senseless act? Was Mr Chambers supposed to shut up and put up with the obvious lack of order that 'welcomed' him on his appointment as chairman of the JUTC?
While we grieve with this fallen soldiers' family, let's take this as an attack on all persons of character and decency, and work towards eliminating the attitudes that foster the kind of ignorant people, who would be able to plan and orchestrate such an act.
I am, etc.,
