The Editor, Sir:
This letter is directed to the attention of the Minister of Education.
Dear Mr Holness:
I wish to advise you not to cut the libraries' budget. I am a 12-year-old grade-seven student at the St Catherine High School. My class consists of 38 students and, of the 38 students, only about eight have access to a computer at home. In this situation I am sure you have come to the conclusion that not everyone can afford a computer. This is one of the reasons we need your help. We need you, as the minister of education, to play your part in increasing the libraries' budget instead of decreasing it.
Can't afford internet
I think I should remind you that not everyone can afford Internet bills or a DVD to watch educational films. Also, about 65 per cent of our school work involves researches and assignments and most of these we have to go to the library to do.
The library is very important to us as students. We can learn a lot there. It is a very beneficial place not only for children but for adults too. I know you will be doing your best on this issue.
I am, etc.,
