Thursday talk - HOTTEST TOPICS ON THE COCKTAIL CIRCUIT
published: Thursday | July 3, 2008

They just don't get it!

1 They say some people simply just don't get it! The security risk lies in inviting 800-plus people, the majority of whom you do not know. Then to turn around and ask them to bring an ID to verify their identity, and on top of that, frisk them, is inexcusable and tacky beyond belief! Next time, try restricting the invitations to those you know. This will eliminate much of the risk factor and contain security concerns.

It's celebration time!

2 Word is that the 'deputy' who was busy bad-mouthing her boss while he was away on vacation, and was branded a social pariah for her efforts, is all set to leave at the end of the month. No farewell receptions are planned in her honour, but invitations for a post-departure champagne reception are out with the theme being good riddance to bad rubbish.

Sour official relations

3 Good relations are largely determined by a commonality of interests and by the quality of representatives posted to enhance those relations. When political debts and payoffs supersede national and/or international interest, then little wonder that there is deterioration in official relations.

Out with 'banana-boat' image!

4 The talk in some tourism quarters is that the newly promoted deputy should be given the overall responsibility as the new face of tourism, as they say that it is time the organisation moves away from its old 'banana-boat' image to assume a more contemporary one in the international marketplace. The new deputy fits the profile of the emerging class of new traveller.

It's fine being Mrs

5 The recent family portrait has many laughing their heads off, but it's not a new tactic, they say, as every time the husband is caught out, he resorts to his friends to help shore up his image. Sadly, they say, the wife is only too willing to play along as being the Mrs.

No contest!

6 Seems like the much-vaunted challenge in the PNP is off, as the party elders have advised that the JLP's hold on the reins of the state is so tenuous that any challenge at this time would only serve to strengthen it. So no challenges at the moment.

What smile?

7 They are saying she is so botoxed, the smile has now become a very unpleasant sneer.

Not true

8 No truth to the story doing the rounds that the exchange between the envoy and the chief included some preferred Jamaican fabric. As for the businessman, that is another matter, and none would be surprised by this.

Contract hit

9 Did the contract hit have some international connections?

What's up with cheques?

10 First, there was the news doing the rounds that the bank had dishonoured some cheques from the institution that had some shaking their heads in disbelief.
