Police hot on outlaw's trail

Less than 24 hours after the reported capture of suspected multiple murderer Charlie Wapp, the police have stepped up their search for another of the country's most wanted men.

According to the police, they are hot on the trail of Donald Brown, otherwise called 'Negush' and 'Handsome', who frequents the St Catherine communities of Waterloo, Shelter Rock, Tredegar Park, Lauriston and Spanish Town.

Brown is wanted for questioning in connection with several murders and shootings. Anyone with information is asked to call Operation Kingfish at 811, Crime Stop at 311 and police control at 119.

Jehovah's Witness convention begins

Jehovah's Witnesses will host their annual convention at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium, Florence Hall, Trelawny, with the first of the two local conventions beginning today. Themed 'Guided by God's Spirit', the District Convention is open to the public.

The programme will focus on why reliable guidance is needed today and where people can turn to for trustworthy advice in all aspects of life.

The dates are July 4-6, and July 11-13.

Murdered JUTC boss honoured

Murdered Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited Chairman Douglas Chambers is to be posthumously awarded the Order of Jamaica.

Minister of Transport and Works Mike Henry said yesterday that Chambers would also be accorded an official funeral.

A date for the funeral has not yet been set.

US$60m Caribbean tourism promotion

ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC):

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) governments have given the green light for the region to establish a US$60-million marketing fund to promote the Caribbean as a single destination, chairman of the CARICOM Task Force on Tourism, Allan Chastanet, has announced.

Chastanet, who is also the tourism minister in St Lucia, told reporters that the regional leaders, who spent Wednesday discussing the industry that provides thousands of jobs to their nationals, had given a 60-day deadline to formulate how the money would be raised for the venture.
