BRANDON BURKE lived up to his billing as the top ranked male player in the Pan Caribbean Jamaica Junior Championships when he demolished Alex Goldson 6-0, 6-1 on the second day of the tournament at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre yesterday.

In his first match of the event, Burke looked in awesome form, at times perhaps even a little like a bully, as he strode to an impressive victory. After opening the match by blasting a serve wide off his opponent, Burke never looked back and effortlessly held serve before breaking Goldson easily on several occasions.

Hurried play

Goldson looked capable of generating some pace of his own, but although he blasted several powerful serves, he seemed far too hurried to keep the ball in play as he racked up several unforced errors by dumping the ball into the net.

Despite Burke's continued domination of the match, a more relaxed-looking Goldson had a better second set and eventually forced his way on to the scoreboard when he held to make the score 3-1, that however did little to slow down the top seed, who simply turned up the tempo to close out the game.

"You never expect an easy game when you go out on court. I just went out there today and played my game," Burke said. "There is a lot of expectation whenever you go on court, but I guess that comes with the territory and I'm feeling pretty confident."

Burke is being heavily favoured to win the event.

In other games in the boys' 18 and under category, Matthew Rodriguez beat Joseph Ross 2-6, 7-6, 10-8.

Davian Burrell beat Javair Mullings 6-1, 6-4, while second seeded Macoy Malcolm also eased into the next round when he got by Matthew Bennett 6-1, 6-0.
