BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC):
JAMAICA LEFT-ARM spinner Nikita Miller admitted this week he was surprised by his call up to the West Indies team for the two final one-day internationals against Australia.
"I wasn't really expecting it for the rest of the series, it came as a surprise, but all in all I'm happy," Miller said after his first practice session at Warner Park. "I was looking out for it (before) because I had a good season so I always kept my mind in tune for that call so that I wouldn't be surprised. I was disappointed (when I was not called up earlier) but now that I've got the chance I have to take it with both hands."
Miller, who snared 42 wickets for double champions Jamaica in the Carib Beer Series, was one of three changes to the squad for the double-header which bowls off at Warner Park today.
He was selected after left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn, who played in the first three ODIs, was dropped. Despite not playing competitive cricket, Miller said he was still fit as he was in the process of preparing for Jamaica's domestic competition.
"I was preparing for the local one-day series (in Jamaica). I've been doing a bit of practice at the club I play for, Melbourne," Miller said. "I have to believe in my skills. I've been able to do well at the regional level and all I have to do is believe in myself, I know I can do a good job. I'm pretty happy. I don't think my bowling can fall off in a month or so."
