Vasciannie
Professor Stephen Vasciannie, former deputy solicitor general, has been appointed principal of the Norman Manley Law School, The Gleaner has learnt.
His appointment takes effect in August.
The Gleaner understands that Vasciannie, a professor of international law at the University of the West Indies, was selected from a shortlist of four candidates, one of whom was Carol Aina. Aina was acting as principal since February, after the death of Keith Sobion.
Another applicant
Aloun Assamba, former minister of tourism, was reported to also have been one of the applicants for the post.
Vasciannie was at the centre of controversy last year after he was recommended by the Public Service Commission (PSC) to become solicitor general, following the resignation of Michael Hylton. Prime Minister Bruce Golding did not accept the recommendation and later dismissed the members of the PSC on the grounds of misconduct.
