PM leaves for PetroCaribe summit

Prime Minister Bruce Golding leaves the island today for Maracaibo, Venezuela, to attend the fifth extraordinary Petrocaribe summit of heads of state and government.

The summit, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow, will discuss and evaluate commitments and agreements signed at the fourth Petrocaribe summit held in Cuba in December 2007.

During Golding's absence, Minister of Finance Audley Shaw will be in charge of the Government. The prime minister returns on July 14.

New nationalNPTAJ boss

Miranda Ophelia Daley-Sutherland was yesterday elected as the new president of the National Parent-Teachers' Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ).

She replaces Sylvester Anderson who served the association since it was established two years ago.

Sutherland, who served as vice-president of the NPTAJ, said she was elated to have been elected by the parents.

Funeral today for Fab 5's 'Frankie's' mom

Lillian Agatha Campbell, the mother of Fab 5 bass guitarist Franklyn 'Frankie' Campbell, will be buried today.

Mrs Campbell, who died from natural causes last week, was 91.

Mrs Campbell's funeral will be held at the Webster Memorial United Church, Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, at 10 a.m. and interment follows at Meadowrest, St Catherine.
