Wray & Nephew skittles

Eastern All-Stars maintained their lead in the Wray & Nephew Premier League skittles competition last Sunday when they defeated this year's Pattex Cup champions Meadowvale 7-4 at The Dip Skittles Club, Gregory Park.

Eastern raced into an early lead and were 4-3 at the halfway stage, thereafter they asserted their authority to win 7-4. Eastern is home to some of the best players in local skittles, including four former singles champions.

The team from east Kingston leads the standings with 24 points from nine matches - three ahead of Cherry's Strikers with Dragon and Rowe's Strikers jointly in third on 12 points from eight matches.

In the other Premier League match played at Mister C in Spanish Town on Sunday, Rowe's Strikers beat Dragon 6-3 in a disputed match which has been sent to the Jamaica Skittles Federation for a ruling.

In Major League action, House Of Peace crushed home team Mister C 9-2 while Olympic Strikers failed to honour their fixture against The Dip.

Tomorrow, Eastern will meet Dragon in the feature match at Dragon Skittles Club, Giltress Street, while Cherry's Strikers take on Mystix at the same venue in the first match at 1 p.m.

American wins MoBayProper pool tourney

American Ike Runnels won the lucrative Heineken International/MoBay Proper double elimination eight-ball open pool tournament last weekend at the MoBay Proper Sports Bar and Grill, 44 Fort Street.

Runnels defeated last year's winner, Danny Gohkul 3-2, 3-0 to secure the whopping first prize of $120,000 and Heineken championship trophy.

Gohkul received $50,000 for second while Rhys Chen-Clarke was third and Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove from MoBay fourth, both received $25,000 for their efforts.

The tournament was well supported and a total of 64 players from all across the island took part.

Hall rebounds in Mystixpool tournament

Ewart Hall resumed his winning ways in the two-day Mystix eight-ball A class pool tournament at 78 3/4 Hagley Park Road recently, defeating MoBay-based Noel Blagrove 3-0 in the best-of-five final.

For his efforts, Hall, who has won a number of tournament in and around the Corporate Area during the last year, received $25,000 and the Mystix Trophy while Blagrove secured $10,000 for second. Andre Meeks clipped Calhoun Melville 3-2 for third.

In the B class final, Feyisara Bernard from MoBay Proper defeated Richie Gold 3-1 and also picked up $25,000.

Landscape whip Trainers 6-0

The 2008 Racing Fraternity Football League kicked off last Sunday at the Ironside playing field in Gregory Park with 12 participating teams divided into two zones.

The teams are defending champions Caymanas Track Limited (CTL), Jockeys, Trainers, Owners, Grooms, Exercise Riders, Landscape, Assistant Trainers, Farriers, Racing Link, Agents and McKay Security, winners of the dress parade.

The teams will also contest the knockout competition which is scheduled to start on August 11. CTL are defending league and knockout champions.

In Sunday's opening matches, Owners and Exercise Riders drew 0-0, while CTL and Farriers drew 1-1. On Monday, Landscape crushed Trainers 6-0 with two goals each from Orane Buchanan and Dwight Wright while Agents clipped Assistant Trainers 2-1. On Tuesday, Jockeys and McKay Security played to a goalless draw while Grooms and Racing Link drew 1-1.

On Thursday, Landscape clipped Farriers 1-0, while Owners and Trainers drew 0-0. Matches, which runs for 40 minutes, are played on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Rodwood, Naggo Head in hot battle

Rodwood and Naggo Head, two former champions, will lock horns in a hot battle tomorrow at the Naggo Head playing field as the Pines Imaging Centre/Keith Gentles Portmore Under-17 Football League continues with 10 matches across the Sunshine City.

The Rodwood/Naggo Head clash, a Zone A encounter, is the feature match at the Naggo Head playing field at 3:30 p.m. In an earlier match at the venue at 1:30 p.m., Zone B teams Garveymeade and Portmore Gardens face off. Another key encounter is between Wanderers and defending champs Watson Grove at the Watson Grove playing field at 3:30 p.m. Christian Pen and Racing United play in the opening game at 1:30 p.m at the same venue.

Zone A favourites Portmore United tackle Greater Portmore at the Greater Portmore field at 3:30 p.m. while two hours before, Dunbeholden and Braeton United meet in another Zone A clash.

At Portsmouth, home team Portsmouth will welcome Caymanas Gardens in the opening game at the venue at 1:30 p.m., while the feature clash will see Daytona vs Portmore Pines. In other matches, it's Independence City vs Waterford at 1:30 p.m. and Cumberland vs Hellshire United at 3:30 (both games at Cumberland).

Portmore U15 cricket

Three matches are on this weekend in the Milo-sponsored Portmore Metropolitan Under-15 Cricket League.

This morning at 11, Reid's Pen and Washington CC do battle at the Bridgeport sports ground while two more games are on tomorrow. Ken's Wildflower go in search of their fourth win in a row when they take on Waterford at the Waterford High School grounds and Colours International try for their third win of the season as they face off with Portsmouth at the Bridgeport sports ground.

Woodhall seven-a-side

The West Coast Computers and Electronics Woodhall Community seven-a-side football league continues today with two matches. These are Taliban at home to Impression and Sutton B at home to McGreggor. In tomorrow's matches, Best A Dem take on Fresh United at home, White Lion vs Escaution and New Bronx vs Sutton A (home teams named first).

The competition has attracted 12 teams divided into two zones.

Under-19 summer league

Matches scheduled in the Clarendon Football Association's Building Innovation Under-19 summer league today are as follows: Raver's FC vs Bustamante High at 2 p.m. at New Bowens and Vere vs Sunnyside in the second match at 3:30 p.m. The league got under way on Thursday with 12 participating teams divided into two zones.

They are (Zone A) - Denbigh High, Glenmuir High, Kemps Hill, Raver's FC, Bustamante High and Old Harbour High. Zone B - Garvey Maceo, Clarendon College, Vere Technical, Sunnyside FC, Christina High and Edwin Allen High.
