Pastor Carla Dunbar, termed by some as 'Professor Sex', is urging couples to shed the cloak of conservatism in the bedroom and open up new dimensions to lovemaking.

Dunbar, who is best known for her controversial candour on the matter, said it's important for husbands and wives to experiment with sexual positions.

In a Saturday Life interview on Thursday, she said boredom will set in with mundane positions. "Variety is the spice of life," she said.

The cleric argues that the Bible is silent on sexual positions, and so encourages persons in committed relationships to fully explore their options.

While sex has traditionally been a taboo issue in Jamaican society, more persons are willing to pull away the veil and speak their mind.

Though couples might have a favourite sex position, varying lovemaking - whether changing the setting, experimenting with angles of entry, or role playing - helps keep relationships healthy and exciting.

It's arguable that there are no really original sex positions, but Jamaican vernacular has the ability to add new life to old methods. Doggy style has been coined the 'back shot', while other inventive terms are the 'lizard lap', 'picture frame' and 'cup and saucer'.

Lust-laden lovers who try out different positions show a streak of adventurousness, a willingness to break down borders - not just to think outside the box, but to smash the box itself.

intimate secrets

A snap canvass of Kingston's major melting pot, Half-Way Tree, this week found several commuters too shy to reveal their most intimate secrets, but there were a few extroverts (who refrained from giving their surnames) brave enough to share their No. 1 position.

Lisa, 30, and Dawn, 43, didn't want their pics taken for Saturday Life's vox pop, but were unabashed in making their favourite known.

"I love doggy style," said Lisa, "I feel everything and mi like hard sex."

Dawn's favourite was much the same, adding only that she did not "like di mama an papa t'ing".

Jacksona, 19:

Doggy sytle, because it feels better than other positions.

John, 31:

Mi hav nuff position. Mi like doggy style, lizard lap and picture frame.

Jermaine, 18:

Doggy style. It feels more comfortable to me.

Joy, 33:

Mi like it on top. Mi nuh like belly rub-a-dub ting.
