Tinted vehicles
A restriction on tinted vehicles should definitely be enforced and overseen by local government under the supervision of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. This could be implemented in all parishes over a period of two years starting with the four most-violent parishes. Entering any of these parishes would then be a traffic offence, or at worst, a criminal offence.
Controversies will arise as to whether Government officials' vehicles or those of police personnel should be tinted. In this instance, there should be no 'shackling' of the law.

Backing Peter
This is in of support Dr Peter Phillips in his bid for leadership of the People's National Party. I just want to say that Portia Simpson Miller did not do well in her debate against now Prime Minister Bruce Golding, leading up to the general election last year, and was not qualified enough as prime minister. Dr Peter Phillips is very articulate, and he is a very intelligent person, who has the potential to become the next prime minister of Jamaica.

Festival fading
I was so shocked to see the cover of the Entertainment section of The Gleaner of Monday, July 14. I thought Roy Rayon was being honoured for his past achievements, only to read on and discover that he had won this year's Festival Song. I felt ashamed that I was in Jamaica and had not realised that "Festival time was here again".
I began to wonder how many persons knew that the competition was on, knew the songs entered, know the winning entry. I didn't (don't).
It seems the new 'Festival' Song Contest is 'Rising Stars', Jamaica's version of 'American Idol'. And if we are not watching that, we are watching some 'foreign' programme. So, where has our culture gone? It has disappeared into a love for the other and hatred for our own.
We need to reassess our priorities, and the relevant authorities need to do all they can to promote Festival, and culture at large. I myself was so happy to acquire a copy of a history of Festival songs - from What a Bam Bam, Pump and Pride, Cherio Baby and Stop and Go.
