Yasus takes his message to St Lucia
published: Tuesday | July 15, 2008

Yasus Afari

DUB POET Yasus Afari will launch his book, Overstanding Rastafari: Jamaica's Gift to The World, in Castries, St Lucia, on August 5. It is the latest in a series of promotional dates.

The launch, organised by the Empress Menen Organisation and the Cultural Development Foundation, will coincide with Emancipation activities in the Eastern Caribbean country.

"It's really a manifestation that the book is inspiring and has made a connection," Afari told The Gleaner.

Overstanding Rastafari was launched in Kingston in March of last year. Since then, Afari has promoted it in Barbados, the United Kingdom, The Gambia, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

In Overstanding Rastafari, Afari outlines the history of the movement, as well as its tenets.

Yasus Afari (given name John Sinclair) is originally from St Elizabeth. He is usually credited, along with Tony Rebel and Garnet Silk, for leading a cultural revival in the dancehall during the early 1990s.
