RETHYMNO, Greece (CMC):

Jamaica's two-time World Championship medallist, Delloreen Ennis-London, led a quartet of Caribbean-born winners at the 24th Vardinoyiannia track and field meeting yesterday.

Ennis-London won the women's sprint hurdles with authority in 12.62 seconds, while Antiguan Brendan Christian and Marc Burns of Trinidad and Tobago logged 100-metre wins.

Martinique-born Ronald Pognon, competing for France, won a section of the men's 200 metres.

Less than four weeks to the start of the Beijing Olympics, Ennis-London went within 0.08 seconds of her season best for the 100-metre hurdles.

The Osaka World Championship bronze and Helsinki World Championship silver medallist easily outran the Americans Nichole Denby (12.88) and Candice Davis (12.90) for her win.

Christian and Burns shared the 100-metre wins.

Christian, the reigning Pan American Games 200-metre champion, clocked 10.29 seconds to land Race 1 of the men's 100 metres ahead of American Bernard Williams (10.35).

Burns delivered the one of his quickest times this season in landing Race two in 10.03 seconds, beating Pognon (10.13) and American Mark Jelks (10.19) with Jamaican Chris Williams fourth in 10.30 seconds.

Pognon returned to win a section of the men's 200 metres in 20.81.

American LaShawn Merritt, one of the favourites for 400-metre gold in Beijing, won the other section in 20.26 seconds, chased by Christian (20.81) and Chris Williams (20.84).

Angelo Taylor won the men's 400 metres in 45.02 seconds ahead of fellow American Bershawn Jackson (45.47) with Trinidad and Tobago's Ato Stephens (45.51) third and Jamaican Sanjay Ayre (46.01) fifth.

Top performer at the meet was the Cuban Savigne Yargelis landing the women's triple jump at 15.20 metres.
