Human-rights activists and community members in the United States are rallying advocates to take part in a scheduled candle-light vigil and demonstration in memory of Esmin Elizabeth Green.
Green, a Jamaican woman, died under questionable circumstances at the Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, on June 19.
The vigil and protest to be held at the hospital this Friday will be an attempt by the We The People group and other human-rights organisations to put an end to abuse, torture and neglect in the wake of Green's death.
Green, who was said to be mentally ill, died after reportedly waiting for more than 24 hours for medical attention.
United States authorities have launched a probe into the incident. In the meantime, the family has filed a US$25-million lawsuit against the hospital.
