The Editor, Sir:With over 800 murders occurring within the last seven months, with its citizenry placed in seclusion because of fear of the gunman, and with an economy that is barely holding on, my response to the anti-crime measures proposed by Prime Minister Bruce Golding is one of disappointment and disgust.
To introduce all these anti-crime measures without mentioning anything relating to the disposition of guns in the hands of these thugs, or even an amendment to the Firearm Act, has confirmed my belief that our prime minister is very soft on crime. In retrospect, this is similar to his visit in Florida, where in his speech at Nova Southeastern University he never uttered one word about the crime in Jamaica.
If it wasn't for the Q&A session we wouldn't have heard anything about such an important matter. From all indications, it is fair to say that our prime minister is afraid to lead and cannot make the necessary and right decisions when it comes to these fundamental issues.
