The high cost of staying beautiful
published: Monday | July 28, 2008

Being beautiful or well groomed comes at a cost. It's not about spending a day at the spa, it's about basic services that are 'necessary'. But' sometimes' the cost for these basic services can be exorbitant.

This does not only apply to women. Men also have to dig into their pockets for a trip to the barber.

With the price of everything skyrocketing, Flair checked the cost of beauty treatments around the island and found the following for men and women:

Citiglam Shop #14n 7th Avenue Plaza, 28 Constant Spring Road

Manicure - $600
Pedicure - $900
Wash and set - $1,000

Beauty Quest Lifestyles Salon,

3A Central Avenue, Kingston 10

Basic prices inclusive of GCT

Shampoo, set, wrap: - $800

Relaxing - $1,875 (Motions and Revlon), $2,300 (Affirm no lye) Prices vary according to brand of relaxer.

Celebs at Buccaneer Beach Hotel, 7 Kent Avenue, Montego Bay.

Shampoo, set, wrap - $750

Relaxing: - $1,300 (Optimum) and upwards, depending on relaxer brand.

Manicure - $600
Pedicure - $800

However, if you want the luxury of a spa, expect to pay maybe twice.

Adam and Eve Spa and Salon 114C Constant Spring Road

Manicure - $1,048.50
Pedicure - $1,281.50

Relaxing depends on hair length and type of relaxer being used. Prices range from $1,800 up.

If you think it's expensive in Jamaica, take a trip to our Caribbean neighbours and the prices may leave you in awe.

FOR MEN

Thankfully, guys, whereas some women think the whole manicure, pedicure thing is essential, most of you just need to trim and shave, maybe twice a month, and you're good to go.

Flair called around a few of the popular barber shops in the Corporate Area to find out how much it costs to keep you looking gorgeous for the gals!
