Ambrose wants WICB to utilise 'Legends'
published: Monday | July 28, 2008

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

West Indies fast bowling legend Curtly Ambrose is unhappy with the treatment meted out to former Test stars in the Caribbean.

Ambrose thinks that the West Indies Cricket Board is missing the boat by not inviting former players of yesteryear to come on board and assist with the development of the young players in the region.

"It bemuses me how the WICB cannot utilise the services of the legends of the game in the Caribbean," he said.

Ready and willing

"I, for one, have always made it clear to them that I am ready and willing to serve at any level they wish in the development of the game in the Caribbean and so far I have heard nothing from them.

"I still remain very committed to the cause of West Indies cricket, its development and remain ready to serve once called upon.

"If they cannot find a place for me in their set-up them they must have room for one or two of the other legends in the Caribbean."

Ambrose was also disappointed that the West Indies team was not able to finish off the job and defeat Australia in the recent Test series.

Winning position

"We were in positions to win the matches and these guys allowed it to slip away," he said. "It was amazing watching what was going on at the time.

"I think the problem with West Indies cricket at the present is that the players cannot find that way to win. Losing can be a habit as well as winning and we have not been doing so well of late.

"Obviously this would play on the minds of the players and they would find it difficult to find that winning way. But I promise you that once they start winning matches regularly, you would see a different West Indies cricket team.

"They just need to make that breakthrough and continue to work hard in order to achieve what the teams of the past did."
