Dealing with auxiliary fees
published: Wednesday | July 30, 2008

THE Editor, Sir:

I think the Government should request of schools generally to prepare yearly budgets for financing their operations and provide the requisite funding after rationalisation.

The approved funding should be facilitated under the supervision of select, dedicated persons to manage these affairs.

When you carefully observe the sizes of the auxiliary fees, you are left to think that they are replacements for the usual fees now being absorbed by government and, in fact, makes a mockery of the Government stated commitment of abandoning tuition fees.

Something has gone awry and it is the Government's responsibility to forcefully step in and give parents/guardians a sense that they have their children's interest and welfare well placed.

Principals and their respective staff should be focused on teaching, educating, disciplining and preparing students to face the world of work.

I am, etc.,
