Roving with Lalah - Feedback.
published: Friday | August 1, 2008

Haunted house? Who knows? - photos by Robert Lalah

The following are feedback letters to yesterday's edition of our very popular weekly feature Roving with Lalah which is written by Robert Lalah and appears every Thursday.

Had me in stitches!

Dear Robert,

I haven't had a good laugh in a while. Your article had me in stitches in the office - couldn't contain my laughter! I think I raised the roof.

That was a good one.

-Elizabeth

You've done it again!

Dear Robert,

I read this story while at work and I'm sure everyone thought I had lost my mind the way I was laughing! Moochie must have been really moving along! You've done it again, Robert. I love reading your stories, keep them coming!

-S.H.

A classic

Dear Robert,

Trust me, the haunted house story is a classic. It was like I was there, when I read where something went "boom!" Trust me, I almost ran, it was so real. I think you need to let the preacher woman follow you next time, for I am curious to know what was going on. Walk good and keep on nurturing our nostalgia, lest we forget.

I want more!

Dear Robert,

Thanks for the piece. You had me laughing out loud. I wanted more! You should have stayed longer. I am sure you would have seen more.

-M.K.

This takes the cake!

Dear Robert,

Thank you for making me laugh until I started to cry. It's been a long time since I have laughed this much. I have just read your article in today's paper (31/07/08) online. My co-worker got jealous of me laughing so much that he came over to my desk and started reading too.

I must say, I have read your articles before, but this one takes the cake. So much so, that I felt I just had to write to you, so you know your work made someone else's day.

Your writing skills are great. I wish I could write this well.

Have a great day.

-E.B.

Keep it up!

Dear Robert,

I am a regular reader of your column. In fact, it is the first thing that I look for in The Gleaner on a Thursday and I just could not help commenting on this one. Usually I find them very amusing, but today's 'Spooky house in Braes River' really takes the cake! I was laughing so much by the time I came to the end that tears came to my eyes!

Your descriptions are so vivid that I could almost 'see' what was happening!

God bless! Keep up the good work!

-M.C.

Wonderful!

Dear Robert,

How are you doing?

Oh my gosh, that was funnny! So what was that boom noise, did you ever find out? Maybe it was someone playing trick on you or it could just have been the wind. Ha! I don't know why yuh guh tek up Moochie fi go wid yuh, especially after him drink him white rum.

"As I got closer, I smelled something funny. With every step I took, the bush under my shoes made a squishing sound and I turned back to look at Moochie, who, I swear, had taken a few steps back." You nuh see that Moochie himself was afraid?

Thanks for the laughs on this beautiful day, continue to write your wonderful stories which I enjoy every Thursday.

-S.W.

Loved it!

Dear Robert,

I just read your article on 'Spooky house in Braes River'. Trust me, it had me in stitches! My co-workers must think I'm crazy.

I love reading your stories. The Spanish Town Chinese Restaurant one was quite funny. I can just imagine the Chinese lady. I am from Spanish Town and know that restaurant well. I tell you, we Jamaicans are a piece of work.

Keep up the good work.

-D. S.

Good one

Bredda Lalah,

I am a Jamaican living in New York. I read The Gleaner every morning at work. I've been meaning to write to you for some time to tell you that I enjoy your stories and I look forward to reading them every week. But this one takes the cake! Have you seen Moochie since this ordeal? I could not stop laughing while reading the story. My co-workers kept looking at me strange wondering if I were going crazy. This was really a good one. I like the part where you say that you had never seen a man over 60 move that fast! Keep up the good work.

-Bredda Lloyd

You've outdone yourself!

Dear Robert,

You've outdone yourself! The people in my office here in New York are now looking at me as if I've lost a screw. I was almost crying with laughter as I read your piece in today's (Thursday July 31, 2008) Gleaner. You make me want to come back to Jamaica. Keep up the excellent work, brother. Whether or not you get an award isn't that important. I know for a fact that you bring joy to many readers. And trust me, I forward your articles to all in my circle who truly enjoy them. Thanks for the great vibes.

One love

-J. L.

Good work

Dear Robert,

I look forward to reading your article every Thursday, and even though you have previously written some funny ones, this article takes the cake. I was laughing so hard that tears came to my eyes. That character, 'Moochie', reminds me of several friends I used to have, "nothing but mouth". Keep up the good work. Even though we live abroad, your articles make us feel as though we are still there in Jamaica.

-D.H.

I love your stories

Dear Robert,

I love your stories. I left Jamaica almost 30 year ago and don't get to visit much, so your stories are a gentle reminder of Jamaican life.

Keep up the good work.

-M.G.

Enjoyed it

Dear Robert,

I am a Jamaican living in NYC. Today I read your article and really enjoyed it.

Regards.

-L.P.

My only company on the lonely road in Braes River, St Elizabeth. As it turns out, he might have been more helpful than Moochie.
