NCU professor for St Kitts-Nevis lecture

Yorke

Dr Gosnell Yorke, professor in the School of Religion and Theology at Northern Caribbean University (NCU), will present a public lecture in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis next Thursday.

Yorke, himself a Kittitian, will tomorrow become NCU's dean of the College of Graduate Studies. His presentation in St Kitts and Nevis will be on the topic, 'Africa and the Caribbean: the Case for Learning, Sharing and Engaging'.

Prolific author

The event, which is put on by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, St Kitts and Nevis, is open to the public. Yorke has served for years as assistant professor and professor at universities in North America, Africa and the Caribbean. He is a prolific author and is highly respected for his work and research on the continent of Africa and the diaspora.

According to a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, St Kitts and Nevis, "The ministry views this opportunity as important in stimulating the public with regard to its mission in establishing and strengthening relations with key African countries, as Africa and the Caribbean share much in common."

In his presentation, Yorke is expected to make reference to the dynamic relations, which has existed throughout the years, between Africa and the Caribbean. In examining the topic, Yorke will use his experiences on the continent of Africa to inform the discourse.

Honorary consul

Yorke has served as the honorary consul for the Federation of St Kitts-Nevis to the Republic of South Africa and was recently re-appointed professor extraordinarius in the Department of New Testament at the University of South Africa. Having spent several years in Africa as a translation consultant with the United Bible Societies. Yorke, who was responsible for supervising the translation of the Bible into indigenous African languages in the Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa, is well poised to deliver an impactful presentation.
