Speid to become KSAFA boss
published: Friday | August 1, 2008

Speid

Former Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) treasurer Rudolph Speid seems set to take over as president of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA).

Speid, current treasurer of KSAFA and chairman of Cavalier Football Club, was the sole nominee for president when nominations closed yesterday.

He received 23 nominations for the August 30 election. Former FIFA referee Peter Prendergast, who was highly touted as a contender for the president, has reportedly withdrawn his bid. This will pave the way for Speid, who will succeed Ambassador Stewart Stephenson as president. Stephenson decided to step down after four years at the helm.

Apart from the presidency, there will be no election for the posts of first vice-president and treasurer. Stephen Bell is unopposed for first vice-president, while Brian Rose, the current assistant treasurer, will become treasurer.

Nominations for second vicepresident are Jacqueline Cowan (nine votes), Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis (seven) and Kenrick Barnaby (three).

General secretary nominees

The nominees for general secretary are Gregory Simms (15 votes) and former president Orville Marshall (three), while Felix Foster leads the nominations for assistant secretary with 14 and Errol Howlett (seven) leads Elvis Jenkins (five) for the post of assistant treasurer.

Speid is the financial controller of the Gleaner Group of companies.
