Police station in shabby state
published: Monday | August 4, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

This is an open letter to the Minister of National Security and the Commissioner of Police. We, the residents of Rock River Community, hereby express disgust at the dastardly treatment handed to the Rock River police officers.

About two years ago, the police federation closed the Rock River Police Station on the grounds that it was unfit for habitation. Since then, the officers have been occupying premises at the princely sum of $30,000 per month. The place has no conveniences, the entire staff use a bathroom at the top of the building. On several occasions, both the Jamaica Public Service and the National Water Commission have come to cut supplies, only to discover that it's police who occupy the premises. On each occasion, they have refrained from leaving them in the darkness.

No way to treat your officers

I am sure no other section of the government service would be holed up in this rat-infested place. Where is the Member of Parliament? There are no chairs, tables and desks. The present furniture came there as refuse from a bank in May Pen.

Come on Mr Minister and Commissioner, is this any way to treat your officers? I suppose you are not aware but what of the commanding officers on the spot? Even their service vehicles were taken away and placed at Chapelton.

If you don't need them there, close the damn place. We are a quiet community but with the migration of criminal elements, who knows when it will be Rock River's turn?

I am, etc.,

CONCERNED CITIZEN

May Pen

Clarendon
