Reggae Girlz secure semi spot
published: Thursday | August 7, 2008

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC:

JAMAICA'S REGGAE Girlz stayed on course for a meeting in the final with hosts Trinidad and Tobago, after both teams scored handsome wins in the inaugural Caribbean Football Union Girls Invitational Championship on Tuesday.

Jamaica cruised to an uncomplicated 3-0 win over Haiti in Group B while in Group A, T&T dismissed the Dominican Republic 6-0 to maintain their unbeaten record.

In the semi-finals, the Jamaicans will now face The Bahamas who scored a solid 4-0 win over Anguilla, while T&T will do battle with Haiti in the other semi-final.

Playing in Group B, Jamaica secured top spot with maximum six points from their two matches after blanking Haiti 3-0 in their group decider at University of the West Indies Ground, St Augustine.

Final verdict

Teala Craine got the opener in the 35th minute, and Sherika Williams (46th) and Trudy Carter (76th) netted in the second half to ensure the final verdict.

At the Marvin Lee Stadium, T&T got off to a quick start as their opponents started the match aiming for a win, in order to reach the last four.

Captain Rehana Omardeen opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a header and five minutes later, Patrice Campbell doubled the lead for T&T. Following a 15-minute stoppage for rain, the Dominican Republic were faster to settle and reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a 31st-minute strike from Yaquesi Nunez.

T&T regained their control after the break and soon added to their lead through D'Jhavae Cipriani in the 64th. Kayla Taylor then chipped in with a quick brace in the 67th and 73rd minute before Khadidra Debisette, part of twin sisters in the T&T team, scored for the third successive match to complete the rout.
