In support of Olint
published: Friday | August 8, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I write this letter in support of the beleaguered Olint Investment Club of which I am a member, and I also write to my fellow Jamaicans.

I hope that this letter will highlight other perspectives on what I feel is happening to this business. I always have and still believe that David Smith means his people well. How many people would know about such an opportunity and try to use it to help others. Some may say that Smith would have been receiving his own profit, and rightly so. Who wants to work for nothing?

It is true to say that individual members were the main beneficiaries of the profits that their money made, this is a fact. This is why so many of us joined the investment. Regardless of what is happening right now, David Smith has stated that he has not misused investors' money, and personally, I believe him. Up until the authorities started their campaign to wipe out his business, he consistently delivered on his promise.

Never met the man

You may wonder why I am supporting Smith. After all, I have never even met the man and don't know him personally. However, I respect and support him based on his history of honesty. It is vital that people like David Smith survive in business, because he has the good of the people at heart and has proven himself not to be one of the greedy investors. The Olint Foundation has clearly stated its support for the Jamaican people and we have actually seen this in action.

I do not believe that it is Smith's intention to deceive anyone, some people are being misdirected in their thinking. They feel that if they can get at David Smith that would get them their money back. The worst this could do is to send David Smith to prison, but unless he is there to fight in your corner and with your help, you may never get your money back.

I am, etc,
