Great pride in Grand Gala
published: Friday | August 8, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I am 31 years old and until yesterday had forgotten the reason why I should be a proud Jamaican. After watching the Parade and the Grand Gala on Independence Day, my thoughts plunged into moments of glee and pride at the tremendous cultural talents and unity our people have to offer.

Never before have I seen a more promising togetherness of neighbours, children, families and communities working together to achieve such a feat in honour of our Independence. Politics aside, it was a welcoming breath of fresh air. Indeed, 'ole time sum'ting cum back again'.

Hats off to the organisers, sponsors and participants who made these spectacular events successful. Keep up the excellent work, Bruce and Babsy! We need more cultural events such as these to bring our communities together.

Congratulations, Jamaica, and thanks for reminding me why I should be a proud Jamaican!

I am, etc,

KEISHA
