Something has caught the attention of Miss Jamaica World contestants (from left) Shaneka Sherise Simpson, Miss Acropolis Gaming & Entertainment Centre; Marshagay Reynolds, Miss Quality Dealers Limited, and Sian Watts, Miss Jergens.
As our athletes go for gold in Beijing, 16 of our island's most beautiful young women will go for the Miss Jamaica World crown and the chance to continue Jamaica's fantastic showing at the pageant, which this year is to be held in Kiev, Ukraine.
The Miss Jamaica World pageant will be held on August 16 at the Hilton Kingston hotel. This year, in honour of our athletes' quest in Beijing, the show has been appropriately themed 'In Search of Gold'. The 'golden' affair will be produced by veteran producer Weston Haughton, who has had many years of experience working with the pageant. Larry Watson will provide the set design.
Patrons will get an opportunity to see Yendi Phillipps in her final moments as Miss Jamaica World. Since winning, she has worked herself into the hearts of Jamaicans, successfully staging a charity fashion show for the victims of Hurricane Dean. She went on to the Miss World pageant in China, where she was a finalist in all the fast-track events - the first woman to accomplish this feat. She has since become host of the popular Digicel Rising Stars.
The contestants will parade in the always- popular swimwear section, wearing designs from The Mushroom. Designs by Neah Lis and Uzuri International will be featured in the model competition segment of the show.
