The Editor, Sir:I hope you will permit me this venue as a means of expressing my thanks to your lovely and humble people of Jamaica. "Before honour is humility" (Proverbs 15:33).
On July 11, 2008 and the days which followed the fire which consumed the Craighead Old Timey Missionary Baptist church building in rural Northeast Manchester I experienced the humility of the loving people of Jamaica. I know the Lord used the TV news media interview to move the hearts of Jamaica. For Jamaicans from every walk of life (including non-Christians) would stop and shake my hand, give me a warm embrace, and say; "Mi see your sad face on the news, Mi sorry for your loss, take courage Pastor and rebuild."
disheartened
I was so disheartened after ten years of work from Americans and Jamaicans who came together in love to build their Jamaican brothers and sisters a building in which to worship. But, I became inspired after the fire by the expression of humility by so many Jamaicans. They honoured me and one of their very own with their unique kind of "one love." Everywhere Brother Dwen my missionary companion in the gospel (Meirhead district's unsung hero) and I go now or even pass by! Jamaicans cry "Mi praying for you."
I am, etc.,
