Summer and heat are like peas in a pod, you won't normally experience one without the other. During this time of year, there is always the urge to have a great time with family and friends and normally, these activities entail being outside under the burning sun.
The sun is known to have damaging effects on your skin and to prevent this, sunblock and other skin treatments can be used. But the skin is not the only thing to be protected. What about your hair? Here are some tips to make your hair summer-proof and avoid the frizzy and dry look.
1. Get a stylish hat or headwrap to protect your hair from the sun rays. Some hats will play dual roles; while protecting your hair, they can be used to shade your face. For the wraps, be creative and colour-coordinated while being hair conscious.
2. Even if you don't generally go swimming, summer brings out that desire. At the beach, sand and salt water can create a hair turmoil, resulting in dryness and frizziness. To combat this, rinse your hair with cold water, then use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner to repair the cuticles' outer layer after swimming.
3. Wet your hair before you jump into the pool. Pool chemicals can bleach your hair colour, as well as leaving it brittle. When your hair is wet, it will not absorb as much of the pool contents and it will lessen the chances of the chemicals drying your hair. A leave-in treatment is also good for protection, and at least once a week, you should wash your hair to get rid of any chemical build-up. Remember, though, it is better to wash your hair each time you go swimming.
4. If you plan to spend hours in the sun, find a hair-sun-protecting product like an SPF hairspray to reduce frizzing and dryness.
5. For those of you who can't be bothered with the hassle of styling your hair after it has gone through an apparent whirlwind, never fear; pull that wig out! You can opt to try out a wig which will not only change up your style, but will also ease the pain of trying to glam your hair up. It is great for travel purposes.
The sun can make your hair dry brittle and very hard on the eyes.
