Recognising male achievers
published: Monday | August 11, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I MUST commend the writer of the editorial 'Good boys need support too' in last Saturday's Gleaner.

The media is in constant portrayal of the effects of gun violence, and a tally of how many persons murdered per day has become the emphasis of our achievement. I know for a fact that there are great changes happening in the society and our good young men need to be recognised and lauded for their efforts and persistence in main-taining their integrity and perfor-mance in this society where they have become marginalised.

Hail for living circumspect

I must use this opportunity to recognise all young athletes, especially our men who persistently achieve their goals through constant practice and perseverance; our young pastors who have upheld the principles of the doctrine of God; the young businessmen who have spent many tireless hours planning, organising and maintaining our businesses productively; to all our young male doctors, engineers, carpenters, construction workers, garbage disposal workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and young parents, especially fathers, who care for their families and are all law-abiding young men.

We hail you all on your 46th anniversary and encourage you to continue the uphill struggles in carrying out your duties. Thank you very much. Without you all, Jamaica would have nothing today to boast about.

I am, etc.,

MAYA BARRETT
