New strategies to deal with rising crime
published: Wednesday | August 13, 2008

BELMOPAN, Belize (CMC):

The Belize government has unveiled yet another plan to deal with the rising crime problem, six months after the Dean Barrow administration introduced 'Operation Cycle Breaker' in a bid to deal with the situation.

"There are still cold-blooded murderers walking our streets. This is not acceptable. We will aggressively pursue these criminals until they are in jail where they belong," said National Security Minister Carlos Perdomo.

He acknowledged that there is a shortfall of police officers, adding that it would take at least six months to train law enforcement officials. Perdomo said the new plan would include updating the police crime-fighting strategy.
