The Editor, Sir:
The eyesore Forum Hotel on the very last stretch of 'back road', Port Henderson, needs to be demolished. Something has to be done soon. This site where Forum structure stands could be transformed in a modern state-of-the-art ferry terminal.
Coming out of Portmore in the mornings and going home in the evening is a disaster where traffic congestion is concerned. Having new ferry boats traversing the world-rated sheltered harbour of Kingston could be a solid investment, and provide jobs for the unemployed.
Ferry transit
A modern ferry transit across the harbour would bring revenue and tourists to various parts of Kingston. Port Royal, Rockfort, Harbour View and the waterfront opposite to the Oceana Hotel would benefit.
In the future, even other parishes could benefit from ferry service cutting travelling by road. Jamaica is a island surrounded by water, then, why we do not have a ferry service similar to other countries like the Bahamas.
The Norman Manley International Airport would welcome this alternative because the peninsula has an unpredictable flooding problem, where sand and silt often innundate the only road leading to where our national airline terminates and the gateway to the world. Morgan's Harbour Hotel just adjacent to Port Royal would also see great opportunities promoting its destination. We are sitting on a gold mine where tourism is concerned.
I am, etc.,
