Issue: Neglected for too long -14 years!
published: Saturday | August 16, 2008

I write as a disgruntled resident of Brighton (New Market Area), St Elizabeth. This is due to the deteriorating conditions of the roads in that very small but prominent community.

As a farming community, it has proven rather difficult for these very same farmers to transport their produce to the market and for individual residents to get to and from the community. A journey that should take only 10 minutes spans over a period of 45 minutes. We often read or view persons all across the island launching demonstrations to voice their concerns. We are no less concerned but choose to do this in a civil and amicable way.

I would therefore like to see an improvement in our road network in that area as we now stand the risk of having to walk very long distances as the taxi operators are threatening to cut their services. This is as a result of the very bad roads taking a toll on their vehicles for which parts are very expensive.

Unsafe road

This will therefore lead to residents having to walk long distances. The problem is the road is not even safe to walk on and for those who chose to put on their armour of bravery and take on this vigorous task would only end up with nothing but injuries to their legs. I am hoping for a speedy response to this lingering dilemma that the residents face. In fact, this has been so for over 14 years and we think that it is time for us to get some serious attention.
