Shoot them in the foot
Our nation has been suffering from an upsurge in violence and the police have responded by using brutal force.
However, they have been making too many questionable killings and we cannot sit by and allow this to continue.
We need to demand better management and accountability from the force.
Who gives the police the right to take the lives of our young people? Can't they shoot them in the foot? How can we then blame the citizens when they angrily get back at the police? My heart cries out to the mother of Carlton Grant who recently passed five of the six CSEC subjects he had taken.
The police commissioner needs to hold the police responsible, beginning today!
Shoot them in the foot and spare their lives.

More UWI pain
I felt compelled to share my my own experience at UWI, Mona, so that K. Brown (The Gleaner, August 26) will know that I feel his/her pain. When I was completing my undergraduate degree in a North American city where I resided, I thought it would be a great experience to do my graduate studies at UWI.
The incompetence, blatant lies and frustration that I experienced dealing with these 'professionals' unfolded over two-and-a-half years (in which time I was told that the September registration time had pass so I could start in January, then I could start in September, then January, then it was only offered part-time) was very embarrassing.
I was warned by some not to waste my time, or at least to apply at other universities, but I was totally optimistic and fully confident in UWI, Mona. After all how bad could it be? Suffice it to say that I have not gone on to complete my graduate studies because my time for receiving funding ran out while I wrestled the incompetent professionals I encountered.

... Not student-friendly
I unequivocally support the views of the frustrated student at UWI. I too am a students doing graduate studies and I also sat exams in May and to date I don't have a clue what the grades are like for September.
The persons who are assigned as supervisors of theses have little are no time to guide but seem always willing to fail. There is no one to assist with these concerns because they are either too busy or not around to hear the complaints and act accordingly.
UWI is not student-friendly and some of the lecturers are making it difficult for us to climb the social ladder.
My biggest concern is the notion of part-time in the faculty of humanities and education. Part-time seems to mean between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m and that alone highlights unfriendliness for students especially those who have to work.
