Gucci, Prada and Armani have all made their names as international fashion brands, and if designer Stacia Davidson has her way, so too will local clothing line, Yaad Trendz.
Launched at Heather's Garden Restaurant, New Kingston on Monday, Davidson is confident that the brand's impact on the fashion industry will be huge.
"Honestly, I see us up with the brands ... like Gucci, the same way Usain brought athletics to the fore, the same will Yaad Trendz bring to fashion," said Davidson, who works along with designer Jasmine Powers.
During the show, designs for men and women were showcased amid cheers from the audience.
Davidson said the brand is a fresh, funky urban clothing line that says there are no rules as how to dress.
"If you like to be seen, and stand out in the crowd, Yaad Trendz is definitely the brand to wear," she said.
T-shirts, crocheted two-piece swim-wear, and men's plaid shorts were some of the creations on display.
Commendations
According to Davidson, the idea to create a brand came after wearing her designs and people kept asking where she got them from.
"Well, actually I realised that whenever I wore my stuff, people always commend me ... and ask where I got them from," said the designer, who is in her mid-20s.
Yaad Trendz is set to build on a strong foundation as it is already being sported by some popular dancehall artistes such as TOK and 'Magnum Queen of the Dancehall', Baby Tash.
The affiliation cements the brand as fresh, funky and unique, according Powers.
"We visualise the wearers of our brand to be creative, youthful, confident, and sexy, pretty much like TOK and Baby Tash," said Powers.
Davidson explained that it took a lot of hard work to get the clothing line out and the time as come for them to reap.
"We have put in the work, and we are we now awaiting the acclaim, that is the emphasis for 2008 and onwards," she said.
