Diamonds and rubies: no match for shoes
published: Monday | September 1, 2008

Whichever way you look at them, these shoes are absolutely gorgeous! - Contributed

Buy me diamonds, rubies and shoes, shoes, shoes. It is accepted and silently understood that shoes are a woman's one true love. They are gorgeous at face value, beautifully built, and if chosen carefully, can complete you; but most important they never break the heart: unless, of course, they're not available in your size.

Shoes can make or break an ensemble, and for the upcoming season, the 'make' list is fabulously higher than the famed five-inch Christian Louboutins, so get ready for some sexy, bright colours, seductive new shapes and unforgiving new heights; anything more than four inches will be the 'have to have' at this time of year.

Still, it is inevitable that some women with perfectly polished tootsies will want to keep their feet firmly grounded in the cutest strappy, flat sandals; the chic way to dress up (or down) this summer's beautiful bold-print maxi dresses.

Boldly fabulous

Natural shades are always elegant, but plain-box colours have an everlasting appeal that transcends and works like a dream with all styles fit for the dawn of summer and beyond. For a more precise on-trend (OT) seasonal direction, colour is best. The contrast between glossy, bold patents and jewel-like shades adds the aura of an '80s bad-girl appeal to the already eclectic variety; except in this independently stylish era, the two must be kept separate.

The colour of precious stones with patent will cheapen any look. Attitude will balance confidence in flats and pale in comparison to what is really important. So despite the sexiness of one and the comfort of the other, both can work, as long as they are selected from summer's intricately detailed statement collection because plain has not made the list this time round. Purple will hold nothing in royalty compared to fuchsia: the absolute must-include OT colour of the season.

The creative collaboration of bright, sexy wear-with-everything styles provide the perfect excuse to feed into the all consuming inner 'shoe-aholic'. It is almost like shoe porn, the OT variety is just too good to walk past; whether the choice is flats, stilettos, wedges or espadrilles.
