Schools to open Wednesday

The Ministry of Education has pushed back the opening of schools to Wednesday, September 3.

Chief Education Officer Jasper Lawrence said the decision was made in order to allow some students and teachers to better prepare following the effects of Tropical Storm Gustav.

He said there have been reports that some schools have been damaged.

These include the Manchioneal and Fair Prospect high schools in Portland and Tacky High in St. Mary.

Tertiary institutions resumption schedule:

University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona says normal operations will resume at the campus today.

UWI

Registration will be extended for another two days to Tuesday.

Classes are scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

The UWI, Western Jamaica Campus registration and academic counselling will go ahead as scheduled today.

University of Technology

Classes will resume today for all part-time and full-time students.

The Mico University College

Registration period extended to Wednesday.

Boarders are to report to the institution at 2 p.m today.

Staff meeting scheduled for today remains unchanged.

Classes for all students will start on Wednesday.
