The Editor, Sir:
I have seen politicians do a lot of silly things in the past, but paying American Airlines to fly to the island takes the cake. I hope this fund is not from taxpayers' money. A small Third World nation paying a large airline from a First World country that possesses the world's largest economy is unbelievable.
Improvement
Schools administrators are screaming for more funding, nurses are underpaid, hospitals are dilapidated and lacking basic necessities, roads are in poor conditions, rickety bridges that need improvement, providing jobs and fighting crime. The list could go on, but I do not think there is enough space.
Other islands have apparently let them cut flights. These islands also have a large tourism industry. If American Airlines cannot afford to fly to Jamaica, then try to encourage business elsewhere. I am sure tourists and people who want to travel to Jamaica will find a way. Giving American Airlines money should not even be considered as part of the Government's agenda.
I am, etc.,
