St Ann, St Elizabeth seek to advance

A NUMBER of teams, including unbeaten St. Ann and St Elizabeth, will be seeking to secure a place in the quarter-final round of the JCA All-Island Limited Overs cricket competition today.

Champions Melbourne and reigning two-day titleholders St Catherine CC, who are yet to drop a point, have already qualified for the next stage and it is expected that St Ann and St Elizabeth, who face cellar teams St Catherine Parish and Trelawny at St. Ann Bauxite and the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium, respectively, will join them by the end of the day.

Other teams who stand good chances of qualifying are Kingston and Kensington who both have 3-1 records. Kingston, who were hammered by St Catherine CC in their last outing, will go up against Portland at Folly Oval while Kensington. who fell to Melbourne, will journey across the road to face neighbours Lucas.

In other matches, the JDF, Police, Manchester and St James, who stand an outside chance of advancing, will take on Melbourne, St Mary, Clarendon and Hanover respectively. In matches of academic interest, Kingston and St Andrew will face St Catherine CC and Boys' Town will go up against St Thomas at Collie Smith Drive.

The preliminary round of the competition was divided into four groups with group winners and runners-up slated to advance to the quarter-finals. The winners of the next round advance to the semi-finals from which the top two will contest the final.
